A New Chapter for PR-Journalist Relations

Updated: Nov 20, 2023

Last week, I had a Zoom chat with Charlie Russell, the founder of Synapse, a promising new marketplace for PR professionals and journalists. If you're tired of shooting pitches into the void, this platform might just be the game-changer you've been waiting for.

It's no secret—journalists are inundated with hundreds of email pitches every day. Synapse aims to streamline this chaotic process, giving PR pros and journalists a common ground to engage effectively. It’s not just about chucking your pitch into a sea of inboxes; it’s about targeted and meaningful interactions. How? With a digital marketplace where your pitch can be found by thousands of journalists who are actively interested.

Journalists get to set parameters for the kind of stories they're interested in (e.g. broadcast interviews, statistics, case studies). So, if your pitch falls within these categories, it will show up. If it doesn’t, your pitch simply won't display for that particular journalist, saving everyone time and effort.

The "Exclusives" feature allows PRs to dangle their stories in front of multiple journalists, with the first one biting getting the exclusive rights. Say goodbye to potential dual publications!

On top of this, journalists can keep PRs posted on the editorial process—no more need for those irksome chasing emails. Think of it as a virtual newsroom where PR pros and journalists can keep tabs on the entire lifecycle of a story.

The platform has already gained the attention from big players like National World and Reach and as of last week over 1050 journalists and 1600 PRs are already on board. Coverage is already being generated through the platform, and Charlie tells me the majority has originated from journalist requests which I think it very promising.

If Synapse takes off, it could revolutionise the PR-journalist dynamic. I say, give it a go. It’s free to use at the moment: www.synapse.media.
